Today I’m going to talk about the next part in the series “Why 2% of Affiliates Rake in 95% of the Profits.”
I want to talk about something that may be hindering your efforts to become a super affiliate and you don’t even know it…
BELIEFS
Do you know anyone who has the midas touch, whatever they do seems to work out, whatever business they start seems to become successful, as if by magic?
On the other hand, do you know somebody who seems to encounter one calamity, one stroke of bad luck after another. They’re always short of money, always running late, can’t hold a job for more than 2 months?? It’s as if a dark cloud is hovering over that person.
Now the casual observer would say the first person is ‘lucky’ and the second person is ‘unlucky.’ There’s only one problem with that, statistically, no one can is consistently ‘lucky’ or consistently ‘unlucky’, assuming luck is something that happens by complete chance.
Now most people don’t have the midas touch and most people don’t attract disaster to them at every turn. Most of people are in the middle.
So what determines whether you’ve got the midas touch or the mature touch (where everything goes wrong all the time) or if you’re somewhere in the middle??
It all has to do with your beliefs!
Many of you know exactly what I’m talking about, especially if you’re into self development and personal growth as I am.
Let look at some common beliefs about money you may have been exposed to:
Money is the root of all evil.
You have to get lucky to become rich.
You have to have the right connections to become rich.
Do you know what side of the tracks you were born on? You’ll never be rich.
We may be poor, but a least we’re honest (implying rich people are crooks).
Money doesn’t come easy, you have to work hard and sweat to make it. (trading hours for dollars)
Chances are that you’ve heard one of more of the above growing up. Can you imagine a dad telling his 5 year old son : “We may be poor, but at least we’re honest.” Can you imagine the impact if he hears stuff like that, over and over again, from his parents all throughout his childhood.
Now at that age statements like that are going to have a huge impact on that boy. Twenty years later he starts his affiliate marketing business with the belief that ‘rich people are crooks’ embedded deep in his subconscious mind.
He’s going to have a hard time succeeding and becoming a super affiliate.
Everytime he makes good money with an affiliate offer, he’ll have a little voice in his head that says, “You’d better stop this because if you keep going you’ll become one of those evil mean nasty rich guys!?!”
Is it any wonder 98% of affiliates never succeed at affiliate marketing? Most people are programmed with negative beliefs about money and success from all over, frequently it’s friends and family that have a these beliefs. Have your friends or family ever told you to “give up that crazy affiliate marketing idea because no one makes any money doing that”??
I’ve had people tell me I’m crazy for years for even attempting to get rich and build residual income.
They laughed at me. They ridiculed me.
They don’t laugh anymore.
Don’t take it personally or let them effect you, they’re just projecting their beliefs onto you.
Here’s some other beliefs that a lot of people are running around with:
The first two years of marriage are a honeymoon period, it’s all downhill after that.
Starting your own business is very risky, it’s better to have a ’safe secure’ job.
Life’s a bitch and then you die.
Etc, etc, etc.
These are all BELIEFS. Your beliefs determine your thoughts and your actions and determine your reality. You have to ask yourself : are your beliefs serving your greatest good (and the greatest good for those around you) or are they HOLDING YOU BACK ?
So what’s the difference between someone who constantly attracts disaster in their lives vs someone who has the midas touch?
We’ll here’s what the beliefs that someone who’s manifesting a disaster pattern may look like:
No one likes me. Whatever I do something goes wrong. The world is out to screw me over at every turn. I’m always a day late and a dollar short.
Here’s what the beliefs of someone who has the midas touch may look like:
I easily make friends and have healthy relationships. Money comes easily to me. Whatever I do I figure out a way to make it work or learn something valuable I can apply to something else. The world is abundant and full of opportunities for me to act upon.
Now you can see how having either of these two sets of beliefs is going to effect how you view the world, how you think, how you interact with other people. You can guess what the results are going to be if you believe “That the world is out to screw you.” OR on the other hand you believe “The world is abundant and full of opportunities.”
One of my friends has nicknamed me “Midas Man,” and several of my friends and family have commented : “You know Amit, whatever you touch turns to gold!”
It wasn’t always like that, I struggled for years, in many areas of my life I was on a disaster pattern attracting one negative outcome after another. My relationships were a mess, I had very few friends, in fact most of my friendships lasted only a few days or a few months.
I started various business, and failed year, after year, after year!
What’s worst I was unhappy, really unhappy.
When I started on the road of personal growth and self development my life began to change, I read books such as “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, and “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David Schwartz.
I got really excited when I found out that it wasn’t the world that was against me, that I had been manifesting all the shit that was happening to me. I discovered I could changed my circumstances my changing my thoughts, and ultimately changing my beliefs.
Now don’t get me wrong I didn’t go from the mature touch to the Midas touch overnight, it took me years of painful self reflection, and self development, etc etc. But don’t let that discourage you, I was really messed up, and had a poor self image, so it understandable took me a while.
My life changed in DIRECT proportion to the degree I changed my thoughts and beliefs.
My life is just incredible now, I’m married to the most wonderful woman in the world. I have a striving affiliate marketing business that continues to grow by leaps and bounds.
I attract friends easily now. I have and maintain healthy relationships easily.
I have more time and more money than I ever dreamed of. I live in the great city of Boston. I’m in perfect health and most importantly I’m excited about life and what the future brings!
It’s an amazing way to live! And it all started when I CHANGED THE WAY I THINK.
If you’re struggling in affiliate marketing or in any business or area of your life for that matter. I would strongly recommend that you start on the road to personal development.
Here’s one of my favorite personal growth books, I STRONGLY recommend that everyone read this book read : “Being Happy!” by Andrew Matthews (NOT an affiliate link).
andrew matthews being happy belief systems
Great post, love it
Thanks Amit for the inspiration. I can completely relate to having friends and family tell me to give up and quit. Everyone I have talked to has told me to quit and that I am nuts and that it will never work! How wrong they are! I have been building a site and campaigns using precisely what I have learned from this blog. The results are frickin spectacular! I have absolutey no issues whatsoever with Adwords quality score, something I have stuggled with for some time. Sending 2 cent clicks to a 21 cent EPC offer is just incredible! Thank you so much!
Ahh I understand now Amit
I just thought you misquoted it, but you are right it is misquoted all the time and people believe that. I see Christian’s all the time saying that money is the root to all evil and that if you have alot money like you said that your a bad, evil, or whatever person. When in fact the problem is when you love money more than other stuff, including but not limited to family, friends, loved ones, etc.
Derek,
Isn’t funny that people that say that are the ones that really put the love of money over friends and family. They are the ones who work 40-80 hours week and their whole life is revolved around making money and keeping it while if you have a lot of money you don’t have to worry as much about making and keeping it you can focus on the important things in life.
Well said, well said.
The greatest confidence comes from within. Great people overcome great odds before they even achieve success. Let’s achieve our goals in 2008
Thanks for this inspiring post!
“I’ve had people tell me I’m crazy for years for even attempting to get rich and build residual income.”
I don’t even tell people anymore that I’m trying to build a residual income through affiliate marketing because they laugh at me a called me crazy but I’m here to make it happen.
Thanks.
