What’s Your LP Load Time?….Part I

I know, I know, I haven’t posted in a LONG time. Let’s just say I’ve been busy getting a new business up and running. :)

I want to do a series of posts revealing some KILLER Adwords insights that’ve I’ve recently stumbled upon.

First one has to do with landing page load time.

Unless you’re a total newbie, I’m sure you’ve heard that landing page load time plays a part in your Quality Score.

Well, let me tell you, IT PLAYS A HUGE ROLE! Speeding up your load time can not only cut your CPC by up to 50%, but will also skyrocket your SEO rankings, so pay attention!

The first tip is a non-brainer: host your site on a dedicated server, shared hosting will KILL your load time.

The second tip is UBER POWERFUL and most people are NOT doing this…

Call your web hosting company (or if you’re tech savvy edit your Apache config file) and turn on MOD_GZIP/MOD_DEFLATE.

mod_gzip (or mod_deflate, same thing really) setting gzips web content before it sends it to your browser, then your browser simply unzips the file and loads up the content.

This DRAMATICALLY speeds up landing page load time. Google will LOVE your site if you do this.

I got one more trick up my sleeve on how to seriously bump up LP load time, it’s a little more involved so I’ll tell you about it next time. Stay tuned!

  1. I am a huge fan of small tweaks that can help lower your CPC. In my own personal experience load time affects SEO less than PPC (SEO is links links links and content :) ). A source I used to improve my dedicated servers load time is http://www.rubyrobot.org/article/5-tips-for-faster-loading-web-sites
A bit technical at some parts but a good guide.

Yahoo also has a handy Firefox extension to help you do it right: http://developer.yahoo.com/yslow/

i’ve found that hosting some graphics externally (like imageshack) cuts down on requests to your server and speeds loading time. of course you’re not 100% in control then.

    Hi Amit,

    I’m your PPCClassroom student.
recently all my Google adwords accounts has been banned. they claimed that I’m using a bridge page or pages on get-rich-quick, and so they ban all my accounts and related accounts.
I’d tried all sorts of methods to create another new account but failed, this includes using of new user info, new email, new credit card, etc, but all failed. In short, no matter what and how i do, it seems that Google knows me and ban all my accounts.
Can you advice what should I do to get my account unban?

    Rgds,
    Sam

    Hi Amit,

I have discovered your Blog today and am very impressed, I found it via Digital Points forums.

I am currently tweaking what will be my second attempt at Adwords, I’m linking to a Clickbank product.

In order to track which keywords are most popular I have set up my ads so the link takes them to a hosted page which has a Meta refresh redirect which takes them to my hoplink.

After reading your post I have a slight fear that this might affect not only my QS as Google may crawl the hosted page before it redirects (Meta refresh set to 0) so it goes quite quick, I’m also worried the loading time will be seriously impaired.

    So my question is:

Should I be worried about this, and if so what can I do to improve it?
