The Super Affiliate Attitude

You know, there’s a saying that goes : “Your attitude determines your altitude.”
And the more I think about this statement, the more I realize it’s true.
I want you to think about this: What’s your attitude when launching an affiliate offer?
Your attitude can, and often will, determine your ultimate success in launching an affiliate offer.
Here’s the attitude most affiliates have:
“Okay, I’ll try this offer out, but it’s probably saturated, I’ve seen a lot of other affiliates promoting this.”
“Man, I don’t know about this offer, the average cost per click is over 0.50!”
“I’m sure I can make this affiliate offer work, however, there’s no way this is going to last. I mean this is too good to be true, pretty soon everyone is going to be promoting it.”
“I don’t know enough about this niche to promote this offer.”
“PPC is getting too competitive, I need to focus on offers no one else is promoting, and hope I can make them profitable.”
“Sure, there are super affiliates having success with this offer, but I’m sure they have some special deal with the merchant, which is the only reason they’re successful!”
Sound familiar? If you’ve had these thoughts, I can tell you right now it’s KILLING your affiliate marketing business.
Here’s the attitude a super affiliate has:
“Other people are having a lot of success with this offer, so I will too. I’m going to make a killing with it!”
“Okay, this is a completely new niche for me, and I know I need a different strategy to be success with this offer. Let me study this niche and figure out what strategies other successful affiliates are using. I will make it work!”
“The cost per click is high in this market! But so is the EPC (earns per click) for this affiliate offer, so it’s all good.”
“This niche is definitely saturated. Not a problem, once I make my campaign solidly profitable at least I know my profits will be fairly consistent and stable.”
“PPC is very competitive these days. Let me learn as much as I can about it and stay at the cutting edge, so I can maintain my competitive advantage.”
See the difference? And YES you need to have the super affiliate attitude BEFORE you become a super affiliate.
Here’s the attitude I had when I was an aspiring super affiliate:
“Super affiliates are making lots of money with these offers, and I’m not. So what are these super affiliates doing that I’m not doing, and what I’m I doing that they are not doing?”
Answering the above question became my overriding goal. I thought about, I dreamed about it, and most importantly I took action: I asked a lot of questions on forum and even personally asked super affiliates about it, I read lots of ebooks, and listened to a lot of teleseminars. I tested a lot of markets, and experimented with several different ppc strategies.
So what’s the answer to the above question? We’ll read my blog, I lay it all out here! ![]()

I noticed your PPC Classroom site amitmehtareveals.com and I realized I have a lot to learn in the art of affiliate ‘preselling’.
Does preselling come naturally to you? Are there any resources/books that helped you?
Hi Amit,
That is very true, and I have personally experinced it, after not getting the desired result, I do the analysis and most of the time, it was the stupid internal dialouge which had messed up the things. So now I keep a good internal dialogue or force myself to have a positive internal comunication.
I came to know about your PPCClassroom offer a bit late, I had already placed the offer, this one sucks big time..
Vijay
I’ll wait for you to answer your own question, but more specifically (what ebooks, which teleseminars, etc, etc)
My dilemma (one of many) is that I don’t have $5,000 dollars (or however much it costs)to spend right now on ppc or on hiring someone to build a site. I suppose I could just wait and save, but is there a way of doing it “on the cheap”?
You don’t need a lot of $ to start.
I think Amit started with only $200 and just kept reinvesting that to get where he is today.
Also if you’re completely broke then I suggest looking into article marketing. You can get successful with that, then use the $ from that to start PPC.
Hey Amit, this post is spot on. I, too, have fallen victim to the self-sabotage you mention. Half-hearted attempts to go into new markets will almost certainly result in failing.
Susan, most people attempting affiliate marketing already know enough to get at least some measure of success from it. It’s really a matter of developing the mindset Amit talks about and doing it.
As far as not having $5K to spend right now, if you read through Amit’s prior posts you’ll know that he started with extremely small budgets.
For websites, if you don’t have HTML skill, try Elance or Rentacoder. I’m sure you can get a simple but nice looking site designed for $100 or less. BTW, it could turn into a long-term relationship, who knows?
Finally Amit’s given more information and valuable PPC techniques for free on this blog and his Affiliate Summit talk than you’ll get in many $100 ebooks.
Anyway, I wish you much success. You’ve already found one of the most valuable resources for affiliate marketing information.
Amit, speaking of asking super affiliates questions, I know that you adjust your bids according to ROI after you have a good amount of data to analyze, but how long of a time period do you look at for your ROI? A week? A month?
Very good advice. Sometimes going for the niches that NO ONE else is promoting can lead to failure before you even get started. The current sites that I’m launching are all in high CPC niches because I know there is money to be made there.
Hi Amit,
I have heard that the lower you are on adwords position the higher your ROI would be because the top position generally gets click happy people.
But mr.x from blackbook DVD says that “true ROI is lower on top position but the PROFIT is higher on top position even though ROI is lower because of the volume you get”
Which one is true?
Which method do you prefer?
Thanks in advance for answering
Hi Amit,
I’ve mentioned before that you have a regular reader in me. This article again proves why!
Being a complete newbie who is reading just about everything he can get his hands on for Affiliate marketing (but hasn’t started his own first campaign yet), I will attempt to answer Susan’s question:
If creating webpages that pre-sell a product (or paying someone to do it) is the problem, you can initially create Adwords that link directly to the merchant’s site. This way, your only investment is the CPC (cost per click), and you can set daily limits on that too! So set a limit of $5 a day, and for a $0.10 bid, you are allowed 50 clicks for the Adword (or is it keyword, I’m a little confused) Bottom line is, with this small investment you get a good idea of how your choice of keywords performs. Once you make some profit from that, you can re-invest that into webpage development. Best of Luck!
Guys, please feel free to correct me if I’m spreading misinformation. Thanks.
Susan,
What is your budget to get started?
Thanks
The next step beyond the attitude is taking personal responsibility.
PPC involves testing…and some choose to look at testing as “wasted funds”.
To do PPC, or even Internet Marketing long-term means you need to have some disposable cash to do testing.
It might be possible to strike gold on your first try, thought it’s very, very rare.
The best affiliates are those who test and persist till they find a winning formula.
That’s one of the biggest takeaways I’ve got from working with Amit on the Super Affiliate Accelerator…
Every time I try something especially where it involves spending money, I get a little nervous. I babysit new campaigns and mess with them until I am second guessing myself all over the place.
Once I stop worrying, everything turns out alright. I just need to trust myself more.
Adan:
Thanks for your advise. I will take it into account and actually try it.
Thomas:
I would say that starting off with about $50 dollars a month would be my preferred choice. Is that too low?
