The Real Reasons You’re Not a Super Affiliate Yet…

August 25th, 2008 by Amit

I hear a lot of affiliates who have been in this business for sometime tell me all reasons, I mean the bs excuses, why they’re not a super affiliate yet:

  1. I don’t have a PhD like you Amit!
  2. I don’t have the money.
  3. I just don’t have any time to work on my business.
  4. I have kids!
  5. You got in early, it’s too saturated now.
  6. I don’t know the right people like you do.
  7. Blah, blah, blah!

Yon can come up with a million reasons why you’re not a super affiliate yet, even though you been “doing” affiliate marketing for the last 3 years with little to show for it.

Let’s be honest, deep down you know all your excuses are complete bullshit!

Here are the REAL reasons you’re not a super affiliate yet:

  1. You keep focusing on all reason why you can’t do this business. Make your bs excuses the reason WHY you need to succeed at this business. If you don’t have time or money, make that the reason why you NEED to become a super affiliate, and NOT the reason you can’t become one.
  2. You’re thinking TOO small. You get an affiliate offer to $50/day profit and move on to something else, when the top affiliates may be making $1500/day profit with the same offer. STOP being happy with table scrapes and start working towards building your affiliate campaigns to 4-figure a day in sales. Your affiliate income will NEVER outgrow the level of your thinking. Kick it up a notch!
  3. You’re scared shit of losing money. Get over it. Your investing in your future, NOT “losing money.” How much money did you “lose” going to college? How’s the ROI on that investment working for you?
  4. You’re lazy. I had to work my ass off in the beginning to build my momentum and get my business off the ground. If you’re only testing one affiliate offer a month, you’re dead in the water, there’s no way you’re going to build momentum. I’ll talk more about this in the next post…
  5. You’re not consistent. If you do this business for 4 months and then take a month or 2 off and then try to get back into it again, you’re again killing your momentum.
  6. You don’t want it bad enough. Honestly this is the BIGGEST reason you’re not a super affiliate yet. You need to have a burning desire to succeed to become a super affiliate. You need to have a CRYSTAL CLEAR vision of what you want. Your attitude has to be like Micheal Phelps : eat, sleep, & launch affiliate campaigns. If you’re NOT having trouble sleeping at night because you’re so excited, then you don’t want it bad enough.

So if you’re sick and tired of just poking a stick at affiliate marketing then SUCK IT UP and take an honest look at why you’re not a super affiliate yet.

    Also have a good checklist.
Even after you have it memorized, get it in front of you.

    Amit,

I agree with your words but not all the way.
Micheal Phelps is the great swimmer ever, no doubt about it. But he also was blessed with some physical elements that no other simmer had – A unique height/arms lengths ratio, the fact that his body generates only ~60% of lactic acid comparing to a normal human being, etc.

What I am trying to say is pretty simple. What seems to be easy to achieve to one person, not necessarily is achievable to the other, no matter how hard he will want it. At the end of day there are variety of factors that make you what you are and the others what they are.

I agree that if you have a goal or a dream, give 150% to make it happened. But we always must remember that there is a chance that we will not make it to the end. At the end of the day no one guarantee that we were blessed with all the elements that are required to achieve our goal.

My advice to other affiliates is a bit different. If you are truly happy with what you are doing, keep doing it even if you only make 1K/month. If you don’t like what you are doing and trying to leverage your 5k/month to 50k/months, drop it, you will never make it.

When the going gets tough the tough get going. Whining solves little, just doing it works.
    Great post Amit.

Tip #7 - If you’re spending more time reading blogs, posting in forums, replying to email, IMing vs working on yr own campaigns = Doom!

Great post Amit! We can come up with any excuse in the world to not do something - but if we have a burning desire to achieve it, we will find our way.

Shay - I agree that everyone has different talents - but as the old saying goes “There’s more than one way to skin a cat”. My talent is unique - as is yours - as it Amits - And we can all find our own way to our own success using our own talents and not each others.

    Amit,

This is a really good post, but there are many other reasons why people aren’t super affiliates such as:

-Inability to focus and multi task
-Inability to pay attention to details
    -Inability to determine profitable niches
-Lack of knowledge to implement a campaign properly and effectively

To put it simply, becoming a super affiliate is a combination of personality, mentality, hard work, discipline, intelligence, skill sets, and many other factors.

Affiliate marketing is NOT for everyone, you can be brave, consistent, persistent, think big and etc and sometimes you still CAN’T do it.

And that’s not a bad thing, affiliate marketing is small. Maybe you have talent in product creation, you’ll be a millionaire far faster than affiliate marketing. (this is not absolute of course, I’m just giving an example)

“Affiliate marketing is NOT for everyone, you can be brave, consistent, persistent, think big and etc and sometimes you still CAN’T do it.”

-> I don’t know where you are getting this from.
On what basis are you making this statement?

“And that’s not a bad thing, affiliate marketing is small.”

-> Does this have any basis in reality?

“Maybe you have talent in product creation, you’ll be a millionaire far faster than affiliate marketing. (this is not absolute of course, I’m just giving an example)”

You may have the best intentions, but I don’t see the point of your comment.

Are you saying affiliate marketing is hard and to do something else?
If so, you missed the point of the post.

I whole heartedly agree with Shay Amar. Some people can do something really well, most only mediocre. In affiliate marketing, even doing mediocre is really good.

But I also agree with the fact that not testing more offers consistently and just sitting on one or two campaigns for months kills the momentum. I’m guilty of that.

    Again, Thank you Doc.

Yes the only limit is that area between our ears.

    The possibilities are endless.
and to the Phelps analogy I offer :

All the others were in the same pool and Super Athletes as well. There will be one that comes out on top but the others have much to be proud of.

So AMIT makes 10,000 a month in a niche and I come in number 2 at $9,999.99!

We need to stop looking fore excuses.

    Amit - spot on!

No one who whinges (over here in OZ “whinging” also translates to being a pain in the but) has even begun to comprehend the massive power of the brain. It’s so simple.. Tell yourself you can’t do something and you bloody well won’t - gotta change that mindset.

We don’t lose at anything until regrets take the place of dreams.

I have to say that this post is one of the greatest I have ever read. When people don’t get the results that they want, sometimes they tend to fail to look at the smallest things that gave them the undesirable result. It is clear that when you are into affliate marketing you have to be dedicated and a consistent worker. Being lazy, can in fact be your downfall in any other aspects. But like what Shay Amar has to say, I agree that not all factors apply to all people.
