I had owned a Rolex Submariner from 1990 to 1994 that I had to sell for college money, and I eventually decided to buy another. I went to Carlyle & Co. in Nashville at the Green Hills Mall to look at an IWC watch. Carlyle & Co. didn't sell IWC, they were distributors of Rolex watches, and they had a 50th Anniversary edition of the Submariner (with the green bezel). Before I purchased it, I had no idea that there were people lined up to buy one: there apparently wasn't a line behind the one I bought at Carlyle & Co. The Submariner I bought in 1990 was about $5200.00, and the one I bought in September of 2009 was approximately $6100.00. I bought it because I had experienced one before, and it functioned incredibly well. I bought it because I figured Rolex was the watch of watches. I figure they're about $4000.00 too much, but in no way would buying one interfere with my financial situation in a bad way. Upon buying the 50th Anniversary edition, I did a little research on Rolex owners, and people from Brad Pitt to Eric Clapton, to Dwight D. Eisenhower to Winston Churchill have adored them as well. Bottom line is money. If you're a watch freak, and have the money, buy one. If you are not a watch freak, and you cannot afford one, forget about them.
