In the outsourcing session, you spoke about your Facebook application. It seems like everyone from VC-backed start-ups to independent developers are creating apps these days. It would be great if you could write a post about how apps are monetized, because I think this is a mystery to most people.

In order to cloak your direct linking campaigns you will need your own tracking domain. I believe Prosper202.com gives you the ability to cloak and direct link to your merchants.

I usually don’t comment on blogs but found your first comment re building sites right on. As an active participant in the BIP, I thought the quality material and presenters were excellent – and couldn’t believe it was free! If you’re just starting out w/ no prior experience, it has to be broken down in smaller steps to gain experience in every aspect of the process. Simple CPA offers zip, email etc. are easy to promote via direct link to get your feet wet with PPC at first to start. Then, when you find something that converts that you can expand, learn how to make a simple landing page. After that, move on the a mini site and build it yourself.

BIP addressed the major building blocks you need to build a valuable web site – and most importantly I thought at least – stressed to value of thinking long term and building a sticky, destination site vs the short term mentality type of site/direct linking where you want to start to learn the ropes.

One question I can’t figure out about direct linking – if you’re not buying a domain name and you’re linking directly to the site, there isnt’ a way to cloak your affiliate link, is there? Is it correct that I would need to buy a domain and redirect to cloak the affiliate link?

In Boston my bookkeeper was local and my accountant distant, now it’s reversed in Miami!

I usually email or mail stuff to both my bookkeeper and accountant.

We’ve been hit by spammers, we’re working on fixing that asap!

I was freaked out as well like you when my income shot up as an affiliate. However, as a business owner in the US or Canada there’s ton of tax advantages.

Once you find a good accountant and work the numbers you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how little you end up paying in taxes.

High income employees (doctors, lawyers, business execs) are the ones who really get hit hard with high marginal tax rates. What really sucks on top of that is that they work the most hours too!
