First off all to reply to some of the misinformed comments on the last post :
I’m living at the Residences at the Village of Merrick Park, which is a luxury apartment complex. The estimated value of the apartment I’m renting is $1 million and I’m paying $3000/month rent (its discounted since it’s now low season).
Of course this is located in Coral Gables where the average home value is $900,000.
I left these details out of my last post because some dummies out there always get upset and think I’m bragging, so I thought I would tone it down a bit – big mistake on my part. My lifestyle posts are an effort to impart a bigger vision for my readers, to help them see what is possible. If you think I’m just a haggard than please stop reading this blog and wasting everyones time with your temper tantrums.
When I was poor I followed other successful and wealthy people. I was inspired by their lifestyle, and that created the vision for me. I hope this blog can do the same for YOU.
Secondly once I started actually making money I realized that lifestyle and quality of life is NOT about getting a BIGGER car or BIGGER house to impress your neighbors. Sadly that what most people do – even when they can’t afford it.
To me and my wife quality of life is all about location, amenities, and services.
Point in fact : I’d rather live in a “crummy apartment” in South California or Coral Cables than a 8000 sq ft mansion in rural Alabama.
So what do Shilpi and I spend our money on?
- Concierge Service – we found an AWESOME one in Coral Gables. They run around and do all the shopping and errands for us, which really frees up my time to focus on my business, and my wife’s time who’s on a busy rotation in Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
- Maid Service – don’t you love people who bust their budget buying a huge home, but then are forced to clean it up themselves because they can’t afford maid service?!?
- Personal Training – As I mentioned we signed with Equinox, there’s one right in Merrick Park.
- Eating Good Food – We shop at Whole Foods, and will hit up a nice restuarant once a week.
- Night on the Town – not uncommon for us to drop several hundred to a thousand dollars on dinner and a Broadway show.
- Charity – that ones a given for me, did it before I was a financially well off. Do a lot more now.
- Travel – if you’re a regular reader of my blog you know all about that one.
- Shopping – I leave that to my wife, for the most part
I could go on but you get the idea, in total I now allot about $15k/month (not including charity) to cover living expenses. The rest goes into either savings or is reinvested into my business.
You don’t need to spend $50k a month to live a great lifestyle and if you plan to blow all your profits on personal stuff I guarantee you won’t be a super affiliate for very long.
It’s about the stupidest thing you can do.
No super affiliate I know lives an extravagant lifestyle or pays off their home in full.
Here’s the lessons I want you to take away :
- You don’t need to spend an enormous amount of money to live a great lifestyle. It’s about location and services, NOT size.
- If you want to grow a long term business, reinvest at least 80% of your profits into your business. Once you’ve build up a solid asset base you can spend more on yourself, if you choose.
PS Shilpi and I do plan to get a much bigger place once we have kids, but not now. How big a place do you need for 2 people anyway?
super affiliate lifestyle
Nice post, this is a great point to make. Its about functionality and quality of life. Why have a huge house if you can do the things in life you want by being tied down to a huge payment or maintaining a huge estate. Why have a $200,000 sports car if you cant afford to maintain it etc. I so agree with Amit on this point its about location , quality and free time to enjoy life as we all want to like he mentioned above travel , good food, and personal health by working out or what ever. One of my morning affirmations is “unlimited possibilities”. Stop and think about that for 20 or 30 seconds “unlimited possibilities”. Amit you are an inspiration to this concept for sure. Thank you for the reminder. It so easy to get caught up in more rather than better.
Thank you for these posts Amit. I like seeing what is out there for me to aspire to. My motto is someday and I see that someday inching closer and closer. I love knowing that what I want is possible.
amit, you don’t have anything to prove to the idiot haters and shit talkers. you know what makes you happy and how much money you make. if a few readers aren’t happy with it, they can just stop reading. you shouldn’t feel like you have to justify your life decisions to random losers on the web. keep it up man.
You know, us affiliates make our money and we’re happy. We busted our balls in this business, work late nights after our day-job, spent our savings on making sites and testing niches and now when we make money we have all the right to show off.
People who are haters don’t really know what Amit does and don’t know what online marketing is. They just read “I make million dollars a year online” and get jealous.
Most people like myself who come to the blog, extract the right info we need, go back and apply it and make things work.
You know for the longest time I made no money. I still use to come to this blog and read this blog for what it is. Now I make $200/day (went from $0/day to $200/day in less than a month. This is just a start.) and I’m happy to be in this position. Blogs like these kept me working harder.
Hi amit, this is really an inspiring post for some people who want to get a sea change in thier lives. It is really not surprising that inspite of being so successful you are still very grounded and are giving some really good examples. Also about the ebook u have released of which only first part you have published.I m eagerly WAITING for the remaining 2 parts. When are those 2 coming out?I have been reading the first part of your ebook and applying what u have mentioned in that.
Hi Amit. I thought your walk through of the new place was good. There is nothing wrong with being proud of where your at today compared to where you were four years ago. I actually print your posts and have put them in a three ring binder divided into sub groups as my own “training manual”. Great stuff that you put out.
I appreciated your stint on the Black Ink Project last night. Can’t wait for the recording to be posted so I can listen to it again.
One day soon, I plan on being just as proud of my accomplishments as you are of yours.
Amit,
At the end of the day, it’s your money and you can spend it however which way you want.
I don’t read this blog to get investment advice. So, could you direct me to a good post you’ve had on how one should do keyword research especially if they are still a newbie?
You are amazing, Amit.
But I keep wondering how your mouth fits into that crummy apartment.
“so, could you direct me to a good post you’ve had on how one should do keyword research especially if they are still a newbie?”
You know how to use your computer mouse and scroll up and down using the keyboard? On the right site of this blog you’ll see categories, such as Google™ AdWords or PPC Marketing. You can go through the links as starters. There’s your direction.
Gagan:
I guess I should have re-phrased my question. Here is the new question:
How would you suggest someone go about doing “good” keyword research?
I’ll ignore your rude and sarcastic response.
