Have You Seen Dark Knight Yet?

July 21st, 2008 by Amit

For those of you who have not seen it yet, this post is NOT a spoiler, so no worries.

Dark Knight was sold out in over 90% of Movie theaters this weekend and broke into the record books with a $155 million weekend! Fortunately, Miami was not sold out so my wife and I had a opportunity to catch a Saturday morning showing.

I went in with my doubts, don’t get me wrong I LOVED the ‘Batman Begins’, but all to often sequels disappoint-remember the sequel to the Matrix? I was also doubtful whether ‘Dark Knight’ could live up to all the hype.

Well, all I can say is that I was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY! This is, by far, the best superhero movie I’ve ever seen.

An absolute masterpiece.

Heath Ledger, who played the Joker, freaked me out! He did an outstanding job playing this role. If you didn’t know already, Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdoes of sleeping pills! Very sad and unfortunately, apparently he had trouble sleeping. Some have suggested perhaps he got too much into character playing the Joker, and it was effecting him. Well never really know!

Dark Knight will have your heart pounding till the very end as the Joker puts Gotham city through hell and forces Batman to do some soul searching. The story line is very well done, and the acting is some of the best I’ve seen in an action hero movie. It’s a MUST see.

Only downside to the movie was Batman’s fight scenes with the Joker. In reality, Batman should have been able to easily take out the Joker in a one on one situation. In the movie it’s pretty clear that Batman is holding back when fighting the Joker. I realize they wanted to show a tough fight between Batman and Joker, but it was TOTALLY unconvincing.

Here’s 3 reason I like Batman:

  1. He’s a ninja master. As a black belt in karate, I think this is very cool.
  2. He’s super rich and using that wealth to do good by fighting crime in a very cool way. Yes, deep down I secretly wish, once I’m as rich as Bruce Wayne, to master ninjitsu and fly around in $300k Bat suit! LOL
  3. He’s always in style. Whether he’s riding around in his Lamborgini, wearing his Italian cut suits at lavish parties, or fighting crime in his Batman suit.

Amit, I really like your blog so don’t take this the wrong way but check your facts before implying Ledger committed suicide on sleeping pills. He was on a LOT of prescription medications for various reasons and by all reports it was a combination of the various drugs that did him in.

Now keep up the good work and post more! =)

There is a Ninja school in Miami at the Shinobi Bujinkan Dojo (www.onibujin.com). Once you reach your $10 million goal, then all you need is some Ninja skills. I look foward to watch the news one day to see a cape crusading crime fighter on the loose in Miami.

    Hi All,

I rechecked some of the facts and have removed the suicide reference. I got some bad information…

Its about the struggle between Google and IMers.

Complying with Google’s edicts while in our hearts we know the market should be the arbiters of value…

    Movie reviews?

That’s not quite what I was expecting, so I’ll try making this into a marketing related comment. I read your blog because I respect your opinion about internet marketing and because I’ve found your posts on lifestyle and thinking to be compelling, invigorating and truly helpful.

But you pulled a bait and switch with this post. To be honest I don’t care any more about your opinions on movies than I do Angelina Jolie’s opinions about pay per click. You’re confident enough not to get your feelings hurt by this, so please take it in the spirit it’s intended. If you have nothing to say on topic, maybe it’s best to just take the day off. Just a thought. Or at least go see the movie in a privately rented IMAX theater with champagne service and a limo. At least then it’s a lifestyle post.

So the marketing part: as a marketer, be careful that you actually deliver what your prospect is expecting. If you promise roses and deliver cheese, you’re going to lose any chance you have of closing the sale.

Still love you Amit. Still a subscriber. But you’re no more a movie critic than Angelina is a U.N. ambassador… oh, … wait… actually she is. :)

I have not seen it yet myself, but I have not heard anything but praise for this movie. I can’t remember the last time a movie had such reviews. Gotta get to the movies.

Well, actually, Heath’s death had nothing to do with the Joker, considering it was way after the film was finished that he started feeling like that. It’s because his work schedule was hectic. He wasn’t taking breaks. He did do a very good job though.

    Marty,

    Lighten up.
I have lost count of the number of times that others have said Amit’s post are off topic during the last year. You guys are like patients giving the doctor medical advice. I was always under the impression that this was a blog. Please stop whinning.

    REC,

Thanks for the advice. Unforuntately I don’t have all the time in the world. I have to budget my time wisely as I have little of it to waste.

Coming here only to find a movie review is literally a waste of time that I don’t have. I could be using it for something productive: keyword research, talking with my AMs, reading a motivating book or just relaxing for a few minutes.

I read the whole thing expecting it to take a twist that was related to marketing. It didn’t. That time is wasted.

Actually so is any more time I spend on you.

I’ll just repeat my first sentence.
    Lighten up.

If you have time to read this blog the first time, then my comments and then respond. You have more time than you think. Please lighten up. I myself have two kids, two jobs and still have time for my family and to learn from this blog, write ads, read, track campaigns, research keywords, etc.
Am I successful? not by a long shot, but I know I will be. If you read between the lines sometimes you’ll see Amit gives great advice on a lot more than just PPC. I love these post about something other than PPC.

    Oh, by the way.
Just use the RSS feed on your igoogle page (if you have one). You’ll see the whole blog (minus comments) without leaving your igoogle page. That goes for all your RSS feeds.
There now go save yourself some precious time.

Amit, I’m glad you continue your blog, but I often wonder how you have the patience. It seems like a thankless job to me.

Maybe next time you have the “audacity” to post something non-marketing related, you should get it pre-approved by Marty first.

    Yes Marty,

Why so serious. that’s a line in the movie too.

It’s a good movie Amit. But why is it so difficult to catch the Joker? The police is always too late. Just ask Lt. Caine( CSI Miami) to get him.

How come the follower of one of the head criminal easily turn on their leader. Money is not the bait. The joker must have hypnotize them. Maybe I could sell those hypnotize book on Clickbank.

Oh wait..this is just a movie. Anyway thanks Amit. I need some time with the kids. But they just asked me too many questions, why Batman this? why Joker that? Any kids movie I should watch?
