Well, I can tell you right now that PPC affiliate marketing is here to stay, however, you’ll need to change and adopt your strategy (and it’s more than just moving over to Yahoo and Bing). OK, a lot of affiliates have been seriously slapped around by Big G lately and some of you may be thinking “Amit, PPC is NOT what it’s used to be! I mean is it seriously on it way down as a source of getting traffic to your affiliate sites?”

Yeah PPC is certainly not what it was in 2005 when you could buy as much traffic as you wanted at 0.05 a click and didn’t have to worry about Google slaps.

However, I’m here to tell you that PPC is STILL King.

Here’s WHY:

1. PPC is still the fastest way to get traffic to your site. Let’s face it you’re gonna be facebooking and twittering till your blue in the face for MONTHS before you can get anywhere near the traffic you can get with PPC in 1 day.

2. PPC is the fastest and easiest way to split test and track your results. You can easily split test your ads, landing page copy and determine exactly which keywords get the most traffic and convert the best.

3. PPC allows you to quickly test the waters before you put too much time and effort into a dud affiliate offer.

4. PPC will FORCE you to learn the fundamentals of direct marketing (critical to your success) faster and more effectively than any other way of getting traffic since you’re paying for every click so you gotta HUGE incentive to make it WORK!

5. Here’s a bombshell : Following up on point #2, once you’ve tested and tracked your campaign and FULLY optimized it you can take your results (best landing page, ad copy, keywords) and use it to with other traffic sources and REALLY scale your results to the next level.

So my two cents is to START with PPC because it’s FAST, allows you to test and optimize so you have a surefire winner once you start buying other sources of traffic.

Oh yeah did I forget to mention you can make a crap load of money with PPC too?

I’ve had my share of threats from Google and came REAL close to getting my Adwords account banned. I’ve had friends of mine who gave up on Adwords after they got their account banned (for bogus reasons).

The fear of Google slaps and potential bans is what motivated me to diversify my business outside of PPC. (Ever wonder why affiliates claiming to make a $100k/day profit are launching info products?)

It’s scary, a lot of affiliates are getting hit HARD by Google recently.

You know what’s REALLY scary? Your at the mercy of some pinhead manual reviewer (PhD from Berkeley) who will smack you with a 1/10 quality score if they don’t like what you’re selling.

I’m at my parents house right now in NJ and my cousin Nirav was over yesterday. He revealed a simple strategy to me on how he’s been recovering from Google slaps and getting 100% of his traffic back.

Here’s what you do:

1. Switch to a different domain (you probably already know this trick)
2. Slightly change your ads – add a period, remove a period, or whatever.
3. Change your campaign name

Lemme ask you, what are YOU doing to recover from Google slaps?

Believe it or not, step #3 is critical, if you don’t change your campaign name you’ll get slapped again within a week. That’s right, Big G is tracking your campaign name as well as your domain and your ad.

Is your income dependent on Google Adwords?

Because if it is, you need to start thinking about how you can diversify your income ASAP.

In general, it’s dangerous to have your income all coming from ONE source. If that one source is Google, you’re flat out playing with fire.

If you’re just doing ppc affiliate marketing then the best way to diversify is to transfer your campaigns to Yahoo and MSN ASAP. If you’ve been waiting for the right time, well, the right time is NOW.

I spend a LOT of money on Yahoo and MSN. Only trouble is that Google still has most of the traffic, so without Google you would still take a big hit, but you’d be okay. I know super affiliates who do well over a million a year in revenue just from Yahoo and MSN.

No doubt in the short running, I believe ppc affiliate marketing is the BEST way to make money.

In the long run, however, you want to think about how you can create a more solid stable income that is NOT dependent on the whims of a merciless mega corporation like Google.

In this post I discuss a bunch of long term strategies.

Now if you’re just a newbie, just focus on building a full time income with ppc and affiliate marketing. But if you’re a full time affiliate it’s time to start thinking long term.

For those of you who are wondering, YES, my Google account is active. However, I’m now using completely seperate accounts for my new affiliate campaign that I’m launching – just to be on the safe side. Of course, I’ll have to rebuild my account history, but that’s a small price to pay for piece of mind.
