I got a phone call yesterday from friend who calls me every New Year’s Day to tell me the same thing, “Don’t jump!”
You see, ever since I started to set yearly goals I would go back at the end of the year and think about the goals I didn’t accomplish. The question I ask myself usually goes like this, “How did I not accomplish X last year? I’m such a $&%@!” How many of you know what that’s like?
My friend gave me some good advice this year. He said, “before you beat yourself up and then set new goals for 2008 why not take stock of everything you’ve accomplished in 2007. No matter how small the accomplishment is reflect on it and feel proud of it, and then set your new goals.”
I have tell you this friend has giving me some great advice before (usually relating to girls
) but this was the best by far. Last night I took inventory of 2007. Instead of reviewing the goals I didn’t accomplish I wrote out all the things I did accomplish. When you take the time to stop and think about the past year I think you’ll realize like I did how much you did accomplish. Perhaps you never even heard of affiliate marketing last January and now you’re setting up campaigns and making sales. Maybe you’ve gone from losing money to becoming profitable. It doesn’t even have to be in your business, but in your life whether it be getting over a fear, meeting that special person, traveling somewhere you’ve always wanted to go. The year sure did go by fast didn’t it? But look at all you’ve become in the past year.
Ok, how do you feel? Pretty good, eh? You’re the man (or woman
), right? Let’s move on.
The year is over! Get over it! What’s done is done the question is…where do I go now?
I refuse to bore you here with elaborate detail on how to set goals when you can go to a bookstore and pick up one of the hundreds of books on it. There are several different approaches to it. Amit has a few posts on it I also like The Four Hour Work by Timothy Ferriss which has a chapter on it.
I do want to leave you with one question for you to ask yourself…if I could accomplish just one goal this year (and here’s the catch) that is NOT financially related what would it be? Why do I say not financially related? Because if you still work a job you hate then of course you wanna quit your job and of course you wanna make more money. Who doesn’t? Plus I’m willing to bet this one goal you have doesn’t take much money or not nearly as much as you think. Here’s my one goal:
By the end of 2008 I wanna have the body of Sly in Rocky IV. I’m serious. Why? Because up until I was about 20 I was a fat tart (At 16 I weighed 230lbs at 5’ 7” mind you) I then had a growth spurt and lost a lot of weight and became a skinny tart
(6’1” and at my thinnest weighed 155lbs) When I flexed I looked like Hulk Hogan with an eating disorder.
Think about what you want your one goal to be. Learn a new language? Have a new body? Learn Karate? Sail around the world? Think and post. Let us know what it is especially if you don’t know how to make it possible we’ll help you figure it out.
Keep track of my progress at Superaffiliatelifestyle.com I will be posting monthly about this goal so sign up for the RSS feed to get the updates. Every time I update you on my progress I expect you to update us about yours.
Wishing you the best in 2008,
